Globalization Makes---Take the Aggreion of Korean Culture as an Example Globalization brings a lot of influences to our life and society.For instance,people may drive a car designed in Europe,aembled in South America,manufactured in Asia and shipped by a middle eastern company.That’s a distinct case we learned in textbook of plutonomy.Besides the influence shows in economy,a big effect also work on cultural field.Let’s focus on cultural aggreion around us and talk about how it works in international relations and the way to resist it.1.What is cultural aggreion?
Culture and cultural differences have been at the heart of human behaviour throughout history.The shrinking of the globe brought different cultures into closer contact and represented a challenge to traditional patterns of culture and social order.It is argued that globalization would cause cultural diversity come to an end.All people faced the problem of what in their cultures could be maintained and what would be lost.Among those phenomenons,a special one called cultural aggreion break into China and gradually deep into every side of society.Cultural aggreion,which means one country tries to change the manners and customs of another nation for the sake of conquering that nation in a peaceful world.Here are the steps of cultural aggreion some experts list.In order to conquer the nation, they need to conquer their native culture.In order to conquer their culture , they need to conquer their people.In order to conquer their people , the best way is to change their value and desalt their sense of national identity.Finally make these people approve other nation’s culture and abandon their own nation.Following these steps,western culture,especially American culture,plant its value and inspirit in
people’s
mind
in
China
through
catering industry(KFC,McDonald's,Starbucks...),film and television and so forth.But from the 1990s,a Korean wave sweep the whole China.Korean idol singers and TV series begin to gain popularity in China.But that’s just a phenomenon among young people,especially the generation after 90s.Apart from that,we’ll talk more about aggreion of Korean culture.2.The aggreion of Korean culture.Dating back to 11,24,2005,the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO)officially recognized that Korean dragon boat sacrifice(in Korean it called Gangneung Danoje)as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.A long-term hot debate between China and Korea about the belonging of dragon boat festival ended in the succe of the later.Although after that Korean government emphasize that their dragon boat sacrifice focus on sacrifice,the similar date and tradition also stirred up a dispute in public opinion field.The second fight in culture between two countries seemed ridiculous.Many Korean scholars consider Confucius as their descendant.Because according to their textual research,the first monarch of State of Song is the relative of a noble in Shang Dynasty,who founded the first regime on Korean peninsula.So Confucius must be the descendant of that noble,who is the ancestor of Korean ethnic group.However,Chinese scholars refute that this argument lack neceary logic and abundant evidence.Further more,it’s a kind of torture on the root of ideology of our nation.There’s no end of cultural robbery from Korea.An old book is regarded as the first metal typography in this world by UNESCO.Then Korean authority declared that typography belong to them.Likewise,the picture of armillary sphere is published on note of 1million KRW.Soybean milk even claimed stemmed from Korea.As far as I concerned,the most unexpected aggreion come to Chinese characters.We even can’t believe that the words we write everyday and the pattern we write them once became another national characters.And the reasons of it may simply come from a Korean paper,which used to write Preface of Lanting by Wang Xizhi.When this happens,even the most indifferent one can feel the sense of urgency.Our neighbour rob the traditional culture away silently and bring the Korean wave in strongly.So Korean cultural aggreion work along both sides and cause a brainwash of some 90s.Are that all our neighbour’s fault?Maybe your neighbour took away an apple from yours,you don’t mind.Then if he or she said it was his or hers originally,you may feel a little bit uncomfortable but maybe you still don’t care cause it’s just an apple.But after known about your habit,your neighbour begin to rob more and more apples from you.When you finally realize this,it’s too late to get back.So we should think about this question critically.3.Introspection of Korean cultural aggreion.Think about it critically.As we talked about dragon boat sacrifice hold by Korea now,it’s really focus on sacrifice and still maintain the intact pattern and proce of initial sacrificial ceremony.From the president to common people,all the Korean take part in traditional activities and talk about it through the whole festival.But in China,those traditional activities are limited in some areas.The thought of Celestial Empire rooted in Chinese history and is hard to remove.We enjoy our inherent wealth,especially intangible wealth like culture.But we never consider about protect them and declare the ownership of them.On the contrary,people lose reasonable interest on our culture,let alone the way to inherit a large amount of intangible wealth.Thanks for mighty cultural aggreion because it urge us to do something to rescue our precarious cultural sovereignty.4.Efficient measures to resist cultural aggreion.On the one hand, when we are confronted with a different culture, we should be sensible enough to absorb its eence and resist its dark side.Why Korean authority reached the succe in application for the list of world heritage finally?As I mentioned,it is because Korean people pay enough attention on traditional culture and reserve the authentic customs.That’s what we should learn from.In addition,add new energy into traditional culture and attract young people’s attention and appeal them to join the team of inherit culture is also a important way.On the other hand,we should attack in order to defend.That means we should promote our traditional culture initiatively and expand the influence all over the world.Take a succeful example,the Confucius Institute spread almost the whole world now prove the correctne of promotion.Chinese characters Hanzi attract people’s attention and directly result in a fever of studying Chinese culture.Follow this example,how to inherit traditional Chinese culture deserves more thought.References:1.Introduction to International Relations
