Step1. Revision

1. Words and expressions. ( translate some phrases and sentences )

2. Check the homework.(Translation)

Step2. Speaking.

1. Listen to the tape carefully and then practise the dialogue with your partner and try to act them out.

Ask several groups to act out the dialogues.

2. After the performance, ask the students to complete the sentences below.

3. We have just acted out two dialogues, now please make some other dialogues, using the situations similar to the ones above. I’ll ask some students to act them out in three minutes. Three students a group.

4. Language points

1) Could you speak a bit slowly, please?

e.g. I’m a bit / a little tired.

It’s a bit / a little warmer today.

★ a bit ------ a little

not a bit = not in the least

not a little = not slightly

★ a bit 修饰名词时必修加介词of, 即a bit of + n.

a little 可直接修饰名词,即a little + n.

e.g. It’s not a bit cold today. 今天一点也不冷。

He didn’t eat a little. 他吃了很多。

You know a little French, don’t you? 你懂点法语,是吗?

This will give us a bit of time. 这会给我们一点时间。

1. Listening.

1) Lead-in

Terry is from the USA and she is visiting England. Listen to the dialogue between David and Terry. Terry talks about some of the differences between USA and England.

2) Do exercise 1,2.3.

3) Useful phrases:

2. Talking.

1) try to match the following pairs.

1) Summary: We have talked about English, listen to some materials and done some exercises about sentence transformation..

2) Do more practice as we did in class and try to speak as much English as you can.

Step 1. Revision:

1) Check the exercise. (课课练完形) Give explanations if necessary.

2) Practise the new dialogue.

Step 2. Lead-in

Warming up by asking some questions.

1) What language has the largest number of speakers

2) What language is the most widely used language in the world?

3) Do you like English and explain why (not)?

4) In what situations do you use English?

S: I’m learning English. I can speak English very well. I’ll speak English in everyday life and use it as much as I can. As long as the person I speak to understand English, I’ll talk to him or her in English. I think it a good way to practise my English. At the same time, his or her English can be improved, too. In a word, I will try my best to use English.

Step 3.Fast-reading.

Open your books at Page10, read the text fast and think about the three questions:

1) How many countries are there where the majority of the people speak English?

2) In which countries do we find most native speakers of English?

3) How is English used in countries such as India Pakistan, Nigeria and the Philippines?

4) How is English used in China?

Step 4. Deep reading.

1) How many people speak English in the world?

2) Native speakers Speak English as a second language

3) Speak English as a foreign language
