Good morning ladies and gentlemen!It’s an honor for me to stand here delivering a speech to everyone of you.Today I want to share with you some of my thought regarding adventure.First of all, I’d like to ask a question.Every time intoxicated by the vast expanse of clouds beneath our feet while traveling by air, whom do you remind of? Your dear friends? Your parents? Or your girlfriend or boyfriend awaiting you thousands of miles away? Maybe, the last name bursting into your mind is “the Wright Brothers”, a.k.a.“the father of aircrafts”, who had invented the world first engine-powered flying machine and brought us to a completely new era of aviation!As long as you get on board, thousands of miles is nothing but a door-to-door distance;alternating sunsets and sunrises only a nap;ancient legend of flying just an ordinary practice.Airplanes not only offer us safety, comfort and convenience on our trip, but also entitle people with both the master of earth and the conqueror of sky.And for this modern miracle, “adventure”, should never be the last driving force.“Adventure” is the spirit deeply branded in the inventors’ mind.For instance, during one of their numerous experiments, the Wright brothers overestimated the impetus of the glider, as a consequence, the glider crashed into pieces taking all of their experiment funds away.Another time, just before their experiment, they’d heard a bad news that another inventor of the flight vehicle had an accident and left the world forever for his trivial mistakes.However, in spite of all the hindrance, they didn’t give up but kept on adventuring until the first prototype of airplane makes its appearance into the world!If engineers attribute flight to the power of fuel, I dare to say there must be an eential element called “adventure” in it!
Without Christopher Columbus’s adventure, human beings may never be aware of the fertile and rich land beyond the horizon；
Without Dr.livingston’s adventure, people in Africa may still suffer from serious starvation and chaos；
Without Chinese scientists’ adventure, we would never be the 5th country in the world to poe nuclear power；
Without my grandpa’s adventure, I would be given birth in a poor countryside far from here and probably now doing some farming.How amazing it is!Not only do the great people have the spirit of adventure, but also every ordinary one just like you and me.I am not deliberately drawing the conclusion to a lower level, but thousands of evidences have backed up the fact that “adventure” is in human’s blood, it is our nature.Ladies and gentlemen, how many of you have ever had the experience of adventure? Today, we haveforeign judges here, and do you remember your first trip to China? Isn’t it a wonderful adventure in your life?
I remember the question that one of the judges asked me in the last round of contest, that is, “Since adventure has changed the world, do you think there are fewer mountains for us to climb?” My answer was no!
Scientists will keep on trying on making AIDS and diabetes curable;
Politicians will keep on figuring out how to settle the disputes among different countries;Businemen will keep on calculating, communicating and investing.I myself, a rather shy person who easily suffers from stage fright, now stand here to take part in a speech contest like this and I’ll keep on fighting until I get the furthest place I deserve!
“Man cannot discover new oceans unle he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Once
bidding farewell to our past and setting sail on the future, please see to it that you have brought with you the most important neceities—the spirit of adventure.With “adventure” mounting in our chest, we will not fear the trial of the long journey.Furious surges are nothing but gentle ripples, the tempest only light breeze, treacherous currents only swing and sway for our sweet, sweet dream.And only with “adventure” glittering in our eyes dare we climb up the mast in the roaring of gale and cry out, “Let it break in all its fury!The adventure is out there!”
