With the bauhinia in early puberty in the bright spring, we have ushered in the 93rd anniversary of Tsinghua University.On behalf of the school staff, I want to expre the cordial greetings and good wishes to all school staff, to the Tsinghua alumnus who live in all over the country and overseas!And we welcome everyone, especially alumnus who failed to back to school last year, to participate in the celebration.Looking back to the past year, we are full of the joy of victory.This is because that we not only succefully defeated the “SARS”, but also in teaching, scientific research, management and other aspects of the work, we have made gratifying achievements: 11 achievements of our university won the 2003 national Science and Technology Award, which bringing the total number of national science and technology award for our university to reach 308.It is particularly gratifying that after a couple of years, we win the first prize of National Science and Technology Progre Award again.These achievements are inseparable from insisting in paying attention to improving the quality of talents;actively introducing and cultivating a large number of talents;promoting the reform of system, and promoting innovation of science, technology and teaching.These achievements also depend on the support of the social communities, especially the encouragement and help of alumnus.For decades, the majority of alumnus in various career lines at home or abroad were dedicated, creative, diligent, and excellent, and especially a large number of alumnus who played an vital role in education and scientific research departments, key enterprises, national defense department and government agencies have become outstanding academic masters, pioneer and governor, who have made great contribution to the state and society, and it’s also an honor to Tsinghua.Alma mater feels very proud of you!Although alumnus left the campus, yet they would always remember the youthful and paionate times.The profound and prolong sentiment of Alma Mater, linking both domestic and overseas “Tsinghuas” together.I hope all alumnus can often go “home”—Tsinghua University, to have a look and to see changes of Tsinghua university.I sincerely hope that alumnus could keep the motto in mind:“self-discipline and social commitment” and carry forward the spirit of ”patriotism, dedication, pursuit of excellence“ and our school spirit:”actions speak louder than words"!What’s more, I hope that you can constantly create new achievements on the journey of life.In the future, we are faced with the great challenge and undertake the same miion of developing Tsinghua into a world-level university.The journey is long, and we’ll try our best to accomplish it.Achievements just represent succe in the past.Compared with the development goal of those first-level universities in the world, we are still inadequate in many ways.I sincerely hope that our alumnus could continue to support the Alma Mater.Let all “Tsinghuas” be more united and keep struggling to accomplish our goal.
