英语中的连词可以分成两大类：并列连词和从属连词。并列连词用来连接平行的词、词组和分句、句子，所连接的两个成分在语法上属于平等的。而从属连词主要用来引导名词性从句或状语从句，所连接的两个成分在语法上是从属关系，从句起修饰主句的作用，含有从句的句子叫作复合句。
