考试变化利于中国考生
近日，ETS公布了新GRE将给中国GRE考试带来的若干重大变化：包括取消GRE分开考试，中国考生可一天之内在计算机上完成GRE语文、数学和写作考试；提供更多考试机会，每月固定举行1至2次考试；统一全球收费结构，中国考生缴纳的考费消除了以往因参加分开考试所导致的价格差。David Payne补充说，新GRE还有其他有利于考生的改变，如取消类比和反义题，代之以阅读理解与生活场景题，数学部分增加在线计算器功能等。
“新GRE考试难度是否会增加”、“有没有免费预备测试或复习资料”，针对中国考生的担忧，Payne表示，“新GRE考试不会增加难度，只是将重点转为考察学生应用知识解决实际问题的能力。那些期望借助培训结构应试技巧的考生可能无法再在短期内提高分数”。
限时减免50%考试费用
“2011年8、9月间参加考试的考生限时减免50%的考试费用的优惠措施。” Payne提醒考生注意现行考试和新考试的几个重要日期。据悉，新GRE考试将于2011年8月8日开考，2011年3月15日起开始接受报名，所有于2011年8月至9月参加考试的考生将在2011年11月起陆续收到成绩报告。从2011年12月起，成绩报告将恢复正常周期，考生将在10-15天内收到成绩报告，缩短目前GRE分开考试六周的周期。

目前ETS已在其网站提供下列免费备考资料：可供下载的Powerprep II 软件。该软件能够模拟新GRE普通考试机考过程，并包含一套体现了诸多新GRE普通考试新功能的限时模拟试题，包括允许考生在同一部分内预看、回顾及修改答案，以及使用新增的在线计算器
