Topic three1106112030 Wendy I am Johnson, living in Virginia.My family emigrated here from Britain ten years ago.I was born in Virginia.I live with my mother and I never saw my father.The neighborhood kids always laughed at me because I have no father.I complaint to my mother that the little companions said I was a boy without a father.My mother told me ‘You have a father, my dear, and your father is a great general who commanded his army to win many battles.’ I was very glad to hear this;I said to my mother ‘I will become a great general like my father when I grow up.’ My mother gently stroked my head and said ‘My son is the best.’ The second day when I was playing in the yard, the children came up to me and made fun of me, repeating ‘You a boy without a father.’ They seemed to love this game.I shouted ‘I have a father, he is a great general.And I will be a man like him.’ Upon I finishing, they broke into a laugh and said ‘A fool dreams of becoming a general, that’s funny.’ I ran back home and told my mother what happened to me.My mother said ‘Never mind what they said.Follow your father’s example and make your dream come true.’ Since then I had been working towards that dream.Our life in Virginia is ok.However, as the rulers of England tried every mean poible to shift of the debt which increased due to the seven-year English-French War on to the colonies, our life become more and more difficult.Where there is oppreion, there is resistance.The people of the
colonies began to unite to fight against British rulers.They began to collect arms and ammunition, to have their militia trained.I knew it was the chance for me to realize my boyhood dream.I joined the army without hesitation.My general was a brave man who always rushed to the front of army in the war.I very respected him and followed his example.There was a sharp contrast of the military strength between England and America, and the advantages seemed to be in England’s side.So we always lost.In a major battle of war, my general was wounded badly.When I got him back, he was dying and told me to replace him.I became the general, and I knew my responsibility was heavy.England was much stronger than us, how can we defeat them? The battle plan for the frontal aault was not applicable.Yet what could we do? I thought about the question, sitting by the river.I saw three crocodiles intended to attack a group of hippos.‘The crocodiles can’t win.’ I thought.However, the result was different.Three crocodiles targeted one hippo, and attacked, then dived into the water quickly.They repeated the proce until killed the hippos.They inspired me.We were like crocodiles, and English were hippos.The enemy forces were superior in numbers, while we had advantage in knowing the lay of the land here.So I discued with my soldiers about the battle plan.We needed to scatter their force and attacked a minority of them.As a result, we won a series of victories, though those victories were small.Those victories inspired confidence in
our soldiers.I knew the war would last long.I hoped the war could be finished as soon as quickly and we would build a free and independent country in which all men were equal with rights and the pursuit of happine.I realized my childhood dream to be a general, but I was not happy, because wars were too awful.Lots of people died in wars.When the war ended, I would gave up the sword for the plough.
