Book report on The Thorn Birds
The book the Thron Birds was written by Colleen McCullough.It tells mainly about love and fate among three generations.Now it is very famous among people.It is called “the „Gone with the wind‟ of Australia ”..Maggie ,the main character of the novel ,was born in a poor family.The whole family were struggling to live in New Zealand.At the time her father lost his job ,her aunt asked them to go to Australia to help her with her sheep station.Maggie met Ralph ,a priest in Australia.Ralph loved this lovely girl at first sight.They lived in harmony with each other.later after Maggie‟s aunt died ,she left her money to Ralph to help him to get higher position.To get what he wanted ,Ralph left Australia though he loved Maggie very much.He know that the love between them was not allowed.Maggie was so sad that she married another man who looked like Ralph.But her husband don‟t love her.So Maggie was not happy after the marriage.Her husband asked her to work as a servant ,leaving her alone even when she gave birth to their first baby.At that time ,Ralph helpt her a lot.They lived on a island for about a week.And Maggie gave birth to a son for Ralph without telling him the truth.When their son grew up ,he decided to be a priest.So Maggie asked Ralph to take care of him.They lived in harmony just like father and son.However ,their son died before long.Then Maggie told Ralph he was his son.Ralph was so sad that he died later.The story between Ralph and Maggie is very timele because it deals with forbidden love and wanting what we cannot have.Though they loved each other very much ,they wouldn‟t have a good result.Ralph was regarded as a perfect priest ,so he won‟t marry Maggie and give up his dream.While Maggie attach to much importance to Ralph ,so she is the one who should be responsible for herself.The drama exists even in nowadays.Some people attach too much to only one person and want to get what they can‟t have.As far as I am concerned ,we can learn from the novel that if something is not yours ,you shouldn‟t be so addicted to it.You can find another goal in your life and live happier.What‟s more ,we can learn that it is important for us to treasure what we have.
